Arsenal defeated newly-promoted Leeds United with a dominant 5-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners, fresh off a win against Manchester United, showed their attacking strength in their first home game of the season.
Jurriën Timber opened the scoring with a header from a corner, showcasing Arsenal’s continued threat from set pieces. Just before halftime, Bukayo Saka doubled the lead with a powerful shot after a fast break.
The second half started just as strong for Arsenal. Summer signing Viktor Gyökeres scored on his home debut, finishing well after a strong run. Timber then scored his second, confirming a fantastic individual performance. Gyökeres then added a penalty in stoppage time to complete the rout.
Despite the impressive scoreline, there were some concerns for Arsenal as both Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka left the field with injuries. The win, however, was a strong statement of intent from Mikel Arteta’s side, who will now prepare for a tough match against Liverpool. Leeds, on the other hand, will look to bounce back from this heavy defeat.
