The EFCC presented evidence showing that the men posed as other people online to deceive victims and illegally obtain money. Following their arrest and prosecution, the court found them guilty of the charges. The convictions serve as another step in the EFCC’s ongoing campaign against cybercrime, often referred to as “yahoo yahoo.”
Internet fraud has been a major challenge for Nigeria’s reputation and economy, with many young people lured into the illegal act. The EFCC has repeatedly warned that it will continue to track down perpetrators and ensure they face justice.
